Leading Namibia’s journey towards sustainable hydrogen

EN
ABOUT PROJECT
A strategic framework for green industrialisation
Namibia aims to build complete value chains connecting renewable power, water treatment, electrolysis, processing, storage, transport and export infrastructure.
The strategy supports investment, technological innovation, local employment, industrial value creation and access to domestic and international hydrogen markets.
Namibia’s Green Hydrogen and Derivatives Strategy, launched in 2022, establishes a national framework for renewable hydrogen, green ammonia and related industries.

RENEWABLE ENERGY POTENTIAL
Namibia has some of the world’s strongest renewable energy resources
More than 300 sunny days in many regions, with solar irradiation reaching nearly 3,000 kWh/m² annually.
Coastal wind complements daytime solar production and supports hydrogen generation
during periods of lower sunlight.
Combining solar, wind and battery storage creates a more reliable electricity supply and improves electrolyzer utilisation.
From pilot projects to industrial growth
HYDROGEN MARKET
Namibia’s projects demonstrate green mobility, green industry and green agriculture, building experience for regional and international expansion.
GREEN HYDROGEN PRODUCTION
Green Hydrogen Production & Supply
Water Sourcing
Green hydrogen production begins with responsible water sourcing and renewable electricity, followed by purification, electrolysis, storage and distribution.
For coastal projects, seawater can provide the primary water source while protecting community, agricultural and ecological needs.
Collected hydrogen can support industry, mobility, ports and rail, or be converted into green ammonia, green iron and electricity.
Desalination & Purification
Reverse osmosis removes salt, minerals and impurities, producing purified water suitable for electrolysis and responsible hydrogen production.
Hydrogen Production
Renewable-powered electrolyzers separate purified water into hydrogen and oxygen before compression, storage or conversion into green derivatives.
